Dr Simon Wilkins recently presented in July two posters and a research paper at the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland conference in Edinburgh, UK.

Dr Wilkins gave a talk on the pathCR paper, “The relationship between the degree of T3 mesorectal invasion in rectal cancer and the complete pathological response rate after neoadjuvant long-course chemoradiotherapy”, which was published in May in Diseases of the Colon & Rectum (DCR).

The main conclusion of the paper was that there is a linear relationship between the degree of rectal cancer invasion into the mesorectal fat and patient outcome of complete pathological response (pCR) after long course neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. For every mm of invasion the chances of pCR go down by 35%.

The talk was warmly received with good questions from the floor and session chairs.

Dr Wilkins also presented two posters, with the latter published in the June edition of DCR:
